Privacy
Does KeyCmds upload my music anywhere?
No. The app never reads or sends audio or MIDI. It reads your session's structure —tracks, routing, plugins— on your own computer. AI features only activate with your explicit permission, and even then your files and their paths never leave.
Can I use the app without sending anything to the cloud?
Yes. The project map, the 23 checks, one-click fixes, organization, and the 64 guides work offline. Signing in / license checks need the internet. Optional website Chat also needs the internet.
I work with NDA material. Is it safe?
The app is built for that. Your audio and MIDI never leave. Your file paths don't either. And if you use AI analysis, your track and project names are replaced with generic identifiers before they're sent. You can also work fully offline: the map, the checks, and the fixes don't need a connection.
What exactly does the app read from my project?
On your machine, it reads session structure: track names and types, routing and buses, sends, plugin names, and states such as mute, solo, volume, color, or automation. It does not read audio, MIDI notes, events, takes, or media-pool files.
Do my file or folder paths leave my computer?
No. Absolute paths to your .cpr files and folders never leave your machine — not for AI, not for optional history sync.
What do AI features send, and when?
Only after you allow it the first time (and while that setting stays on): structure metadata — tracks, routing, plugins, related findings. Never audio, MIDI, or file paths. You can turn this off anytime in Settings → Privacy.
Can I revoke AI consent later?
Yes. Open Settings → Privacy and turn off AI analysis of project structure. Local features keep working; cloud AI paths stop.
Where are my sets, tags, and analyses stored?
In a file next to your project, on your own disk. That local sidecar is the default. Syncing analysis history across devices is optional and off by default.
If I sync history between devices, what goes up?
Only if you turn that setting on: summaries of prior local analyses so you can reopen them elsewhere. Not audio, not MIDI, not file paths. You can delete synced history from Settings.
Does the KeyCmds website access my Cubase projects?
No. The website never connects to Cubase or your sessions. Imports on the web stay manual. Only the optional desktop app reads an open project — and only locally on your computer.
What the app covers
What is KeyCmds App versus the website?
The website is a toolkit for macros, Logical Editor presets, workflows, and chat in the browser. KeyCmds App is the Mac companion beside Cubase: Atlas maps the open session, Operator and Vault act inside the DAW, and native flows (Clean Names, Compact, Delete/Disable, Session Cleanup) run locally. Premium subscribers can download it. There is no Windows version.
Which platforms and Cubase versions does it support?
Mac (Apple Silicon and Intel), with Cubase 13, 14, and 15. Cubase 15 requires macOS 14 or later. There is no Windows version. You install a guided Cubase integration once; then it reads the project you have open.
Does KeyCmds change my project for me?
It can — when you ask it to. Operator actions, macros, Logical Editor presets, and native flows run in Cubase in front of you.
What can I do without AI?
See the project map (Atlas), use Operator and Vault, and run native flows (Clean Names, Compact, Delete/Disable, Session Cleanup) — all on the open local session, without sending project audio or MIDI anywhere.
What needs the internet?
Signing in / license checks, optional website chat, and optional cross-device history sync. KeyCmds App is designed to work with the open local Cubase session.
Can KeyCmds hear or play my music?
No. It does not play back your audio or MIDI, and it does not stream your session. It works from structure and state — the mixer and project layout — not from the sound itself.
Is KeyCmds affiliated with Steinberg?
No. Cubase is a trademark of Steinberg Media Technologies GmbH. KeyCmds is an independent product from Uptown Bubble Music LLC and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Steinberg.
Does the app replace Cubase?
No. Cubase remains your DAW. KeyCmds is a companion that helps you see, organize, check, and act on the session you already have open.
